Technical Theatre 1

Periods 1, 2, and 6

Wednesday:  Freshman day!!!!! 

Thursday and Friday:  The students will become familiar with the procedures of the classroom.  Folders will be set up, writing formats will be reviewed and the syllabus will be gone over. 

Please Note:  Students are required to keep a daily reflection that is due each Wednesday.  This reflection is worth 20 points.  MUHS is introducing a new format for note taking this year.  We will be using Cornell Note format that the students are becoming familiar with.

Your student’s safety is the number 1 priority for me.  Technical Theatre has an abundance of safety issues including use of tools, electricity, rigging and material handling.  I am requiring the students to supply their own safety glasses this year.  Safety glasses are on sale in the bookstore for $5.00

 

Week of August 5

Technical Theatre 1

Week of 5 August 2019

Periods 1, 2, and 6

Monday and Tuesday:  The students will be taking the pre-test these two days.  The test is comprised of 4 sections of written and 3 sections of practical set up.  The students come to this program with limited experience in Technical Theatre.  I always enjoy the post test when the students make such amazing progress!

Wednesday:    Depending on the longevity of the pre-test the students will begin the safety portion of the curriculum.

Thursday and Friday:  The students will continue the safety portion of the curriculum. 

Please Note:  Students are required to keep a daily reflection that is due each Wednesday.  This reflection is worth 20 points.  MUHS is introducing a new format for note taking this year.  We will be using Cornell Note format that the students are becoming familiar with.

Monday and Tuesday:  The students will be continuing the safety portion of the curriculum.  We will continue going over the ground plan that was a part of the pretest.  We will begin to explore the tape measure.

Monday and Tuesday:  The students will be continuing the safety portion of the curriculum.  We will explore a variety of power tools and the safe operation of these.  The compound mitre saw and the two varieties of battery drills will be the emphasis.  The students will need their safety glasses this week.

Wednesday:    This will be the third log grading of the semester.  The students will have bell work and their daily reflections since last week.

Thursday and Friday: The basics of the stage and safety protocols is an ongoing process.  I am reinforcing the need to be safe on stage.   I will introduce the circular saw these two days.

Monday and Tuesday:  The students will be continuing the safety portion of the curriculum.  We did explore a variety of power tools and the safe operation of the compound mitre saw and the two varieties of battery power tools last week.  The students were amazing in their engagement and the enthusiasm that they showed.  The students will be actively engaged in the building of our next production.

We had our first Saturday crew call this weekend.  We started the center balcony.  The call went very well with a great amount of craftsmanship displayed by the participating students. 

 

Monday and Tuesday:  The students will be continuing the safety portion of the curriculum.  We did explore a variety of power tools and the safe operation of the compound mitre saw and the two varieties of battery power tools last week.  The students were amazing in their engagement and the enthusiasm that they showed.  The students will be actively engaged in the building of our next production.  We will increase the tool introductions this week

Wednesday:    This will be the fourth log grading of the semester.  The students will have bell work and their daily reflections since last week.  I have stressed to the students that the rigor of grading has increased.  The students grades will reflect this increased rigor.

Thursday:  I am at Yavapai College today for Drama Day.  I am taking my 3rd and 4th level students to this.

 Friday: The basics of the stage and safety protocols is an ongoing process.  I am reinforcing the need to be safe on stage.   I will introduce the compressor and the different variety of pneumatic tools in our inventory.  The students will be actively engaged in the building of our next production.

We had our second Saturday crew call this weekend.  Even though this was an unscheduled call for the cast and crew, 3 students showed up and were of great assistance!  Not one technical theatre student showed up.  This call was well posted.  I am a little disheartened.

The workshop Thursday at Yavapai College went very well. 

 

Monday thru Friday:  We continued several projects last week and completed 2 of them.  These students will be more involved in school wide activities.  They will be responsible for all technical theatre support for MUHS. 

Along with my 4th and 5th  hour these students will continue the build for our next production.   We will begin the balconies for the production this week.  I am very excited at the progress of the building phase for this production. The students will need their safety glasses to be engaged on stage.

Fall break was great!!!!!  I hope that it left you rested and ready for the 2nd quarter.

Monday thru Friday:  We continued several projects last week and completed many of them.  These students will be more involved in school wide activities.  They will be responsible for all technical theatre support for MUHS. 

All my students will continue the build for our next production.   We will be finishing the set this week. We will be completing the details this week.  There is a great deal of masking that must be completed this week.  We will start painting the set this week.

Our production opened Saturday to a modest but energetic crowd!  The production is lovely, and I hope all of you will come to see what our students accomplished.

 

We will be introducing Thumb Nail drawing this week.  When a set is on stage this is the opportunity for the students to acquire and hone a new skill by drawing a set.

 

A reminder……….All students are required to attend one performance of this production.  They are to sign out at the box office at the end of the show.  This assignment is worth 100 points.

Our production closed Sunday to a very energetic crowd!  The production is lovely, and I hope all of you had a chance to see what our students accomplished.

Strike went very well last week.  We accomplished everything that I wished to accomplish!

I will be introducing knot tying this week, and if time permits basic lighting.

 

Friday a few students and I will be attending the State Thespian Conference in Phoenix.  4 of these students will be competing in Tech Challenge.
